How to use a NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot (For hay fever, sinusitis, and nasal allergies)

During allergy season, Neti Pots are talk of the town. These small pots with a handle on one side and spout on the other are usually made from plastic, clay, metal, glass or ceramic. Neti pots are used to perform saline nasal irrigation , a process best recommended for treating symptoms of sinusitis, hay fever, nasal allergies, cold and flu.
NeilMed’s NasaFlo Neti Pot system for saline nasal irrigation is the most common method of nasal irrigation for adults and children to reduce or eliminate nasal/sinus symptoms regardless of the cause.
Using a NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot for saline nasal irrigation is easy. Before we take you through this simple process step by step, we strongly suggest using NeilMed’s Patented Formula Mixture sachets with NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot for best results. NeilMed’s sachets may be used with other nasal irrigation devices as long as they are mixed with the correct volume of water.
Please wash your hands and rinse the device. Fill the NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot with 240 ml (8 oz.) of warm distilled water, filtered water or previously boiled water. You may warm the water in the microwave but we recommend that you warm it in increments of five seconds. This is to avoid excessive heating of the water as well as the device.
Cut the NeilMed Sinus Rinse mixture sachet at the corner and pour contents into the neti pot. Tighten the lid on the device securely and then place one finger over the hole of the cap and shake the device gently to dissolve the mixture.
Standing in front of the sink, bend forward to your comfort level and tilt your head to one side. Without holding your breath and keeping your mouth open, apply the tip of the device snugly against the nasal passage and allow the solution to gently flow until the solution starts draining from the opposite nasal passage. It should not come in your mouth unless you are tilting your head backwards. To adjust or stop the flow, you may place your finger over the hole of the cap. Do not swallow the solution; however, there is no harm if you accidently swallow it.
Blow your nose gently without pinching your nose completely because this will apply pressure on your eardrums. If tolerable, sniff in any residual solution remaining in your nasal passage once or twice prior to blowing your nose because this may clean out the posterior nasopharyngeal area, which is the area at the back of your nasal passage. At times, some solution will reach the back of your throat, so please spit it out. To help improve drainage of any residual solution, blow your nose gently while tilting your head to the side.
Now repeat steps 3 and steps 4 on your other nasal passages. If there is any solution left over, please discard it. We recommend you make a fresh solution each time you rinse. Rinse once or twice a day OR as directed by your physician.
